New York CNN Business —Dick Wolf, the creator of “Law & Order,” wrote a letter to Liz Magill pleading with her to step down as president of the University of Pennsylvania. “President Magill, I implore you and [chair of the board of trustees] Scott Bok to step down from your UPenn positions before any more unnecessary damage to UPenn,” Wolf wrote in the letter, obtained by CNN on Friday. Organizers of the Palestine Writes festival denied that it embraced antisemitism, according to UPenn student newspaper The Daily Pennsylvanian. In the days before the Palestine Writes festival, Magill was not just facing pressure from Lauder, Wolf and others who wanted the event scrapped. Three dozen members of the UPenn faculty also wrote to The Daily Pennsylvanian in support of the Palestine Writes festival.

New York CNN —Wall Street CEO Marc Rowan is calling for the leaders of the University of Pennsylvania to resign and donors to close their checkbooks over an alleged failure to condemn antisemitism and hate. Words of hate and violence must be met with clear, reasoned condemnation, rooted in morality from those in positions of authority,” Rowan wrote. Rowan, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes to be nearly $6 billion, is one of the university’s wealthiest donors and supporters. But the billionaire CEO argues UPenn leaders failed to condemn the “hate-filled” Palestine Writes Literature Festival, a multi-day event that took place at the university’s campus last month. “We unequivocally – and emphatically – condemn antisemitism as antithetical to our institutional values,” the UPenn leaders wrote.

DUBAI, Oct 9 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates is refashioning state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in the image of an international oil major by stepping up its global expansion and finding new revenue streams to maximise earnings for the Gulf state. The state-owned company also told Reuters it was investing in energy trading, without giving further details. ADNOC has two trading arms, both set up in 2020: ADNOC Trading, which is focused on crude oil, and ADNOC Global Trading, a joint venture with Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) and OMV which is more focused on refined products. Other recent hires include Bart Cornelissen, who left Deloitte to become ADNOC's senior vice president for group strategy and portfolio last month, according to LinkedIn. Recent senior hires for ADNOC's trading arms include alumni of Gunvor, Litasco, Shell and TotalEnergies, the employment network showed.

Liontown controls two major lithium deposits in Western Australia, including its flagship Kathleen Valley project slated for first production in mid-2024, which is among the world's largest and highest-grade hard rock lithium deposits. Albemarle's latest offer for Liontown was its fourth, having also proposed A$2.20 per share on Oct. 20 last year and A$2.35 per share earlier in March before its rejected A$2.50 a share offer was made public.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has a take that might surprise you. Succession plans for the unofficial face of Wall Street have long been speculated on. One of the biggest issues we see on Wall Street, or in business more broadly, is an executive not knowing when to cut ties. Want to know what a Wall Street hiring raid looks like? Here's Wall Street's plan if the US defaults on its debt.
May 22 (Reuters) - Japan's Mizuho Financial Group Inc (8411.T) will acquire independent investment bank Greenhill & Co Inc (GHL.N) in an all-cash transaction, in a bid to expand further into U.S. investment banking. Of Japan's three megabanks, Mizuho has, however, been slower to move than bigger rivals Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.T) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (8316.T). The Greenhill business will sit within Mizuho's banking division, led by Michal Katz, head of banking in the Americas, the statement said. Greenhill Chairman and CEO Scott L. Bok will become chairman of the M&A and restructuring advisory business, it added. Last year, Mizuho CEO Yoshiro Hamamoto told Reuters that the group's brokerage arm Mizuho Securities Co "has room for further growth" in the United States and acquisitions were an option it was exploring.
LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - U.S. investment bank Guggenheim Securities will begin its European expansion by hiring four senior bankers from Greenhill, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Guggenheim already had a small group of bankers covering European deals, one of the sources said. The Wall Street bank has snapped up Greenhill & Co.'s telecoms and digital infrastructure team, led by Jonathan Dann and Pieter-Jan Bouten, the sources said on condition of anonymity. Investment bankers Charlie Evans and Achille Del Pizzo will also move to Guggenheim, where the team will begin in May. Guggenheim, which according to Refinitiv ranked 39th among global M&A advisers in 2022, in the first quarter advised on Pfizer Inc.'s $43 billion deal to acquire Seagen Inc.

PARIS, March 10 (Reuters) - Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) said on Friday that its board will propose that shareholders elect Eiffage (FOUG.PA) Chief Executive Officer Benoit de Ruffray as an independent board director at its general meeting in May. Three other board appointments will be put to the vote at the meeting on May 23. If elected by SocGen's shareholders, the four new board members will replace outgoing CEO Frederic Oudea, Kyra Hazou, Gerard Mestrallet and Juan Maria Nin Genova. These board appointment proposals come on the heel of a top management reshuffle proposed by Krupa, who is also set to formally take the reins of the French lender on May 23. Intrepid bankers will find Boutique Blvd jam-packed

The situation complicates things for rainmakers considering their next steps in a weaker environment for mergers and acquisitions. Making the well-trod move from Wall Street to Boutique Boulevard will be much harder in 2023. The entrepreneurial spirit often hits investment bankers when times get tough, and their mega-bank employers start cutting staff or restricting access to the balance sheet. It's easy to see how the likes of Blair Effron’s Centerview, Robey Warshaw and Ken Moelis’ eponymous firm established themselves. Absent those kinds of industry-specific or geographic relationships, idle investment bankers may find themselves just spending more time with their families.
If Credit Suisse loves its bankers, set them free

LONDON, Oct 21 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) is a weak bank with some strong bankers. SECOND COMINGImagine, then, that Credit Suisse spins out its advisory and capital-markets business. But Credit Suisse has never quantified the business it wins from intragroup referrals, which suggests it is low. In this case, it will be higher if those people are no longer at Credit Suisse. First Boston was a U.S. investment bank in which Credit Suisse first bought a stake in 1978.
